Introduction of healthier milk
“This new functionality creates a clear distinction between the control of milk flows from different factories,” says Hans Wieleman, Head of Transport & Logistics at Campina. “The additional milk flow has reduced the factories’ flexibility, which we must take into account in our transport schedule in SHORTREC.” The implementation of the systems proceeded smoothly and, according to Hans Wieleman, the new filtering functionality made the introduction of healthier milk easier.
Customization
The introduction of the new Campina milk in April took some doing, in particular because the operation began in a difficult period. The operation could not start before March, which is also the final month of the milk quota year. Dairy farmers who exceed their milk quota after March 31 must pay super tax to the European government.
Professional customization
“Campina’s even healthier milk must be collected separately from regular Campina milk and may subsequently only be transported to Rotterdam, Eindhoven and Den Bosch. This made planning more difficult and meant a change in collection times for 1,500 dairy farmers. Fortunately, ORTEC supported us well by responding rapidly to our requirements and providing a professional, customized solution.”
60 liters of fresh milk
Approximately 8,000 Dutch dairy farmers supply their milk to Campina. Moreover, 2,400 farmers in Belgium and Germany produce milk that is processed by the Campina group. Collectively they produce 4.8 billion liters of milk. The Campina milk brand now has a market share of 23 percent. An average consumer drinks approximately 60 liters of fresh milk per year.
